born in San Diego, California in 1923, Ernest Briggs studied at the Schaeffer School of Design in San Francisco from 1946 to 1947. He also studied at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco from 1947 to 1951. Ernest Briggs moved to New York in 1953 and has since taught at the University of Florida, Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and at the Graduate School of Art at Yale University. He studied under Clyfford Still, David Park, and Mark Rothko.
